NASCAR, once an American pastime, is running out of gas

On Sunday afternoon, veteran driver and former champion Kevin Harvick stormed to victory in NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway after a late battle with fan favorite Joey Logano. Late drama further back saw the final two playoff spots change hands in a crash-filled slugfest of a race, one of the sport’s feature events.

Pirates Struggle in Losses to Northern Arizona, LaSalle

The tri-state area was hit with the full force of fall weather today, as cool temperatures and swirling winds brought summer to a brief halt. Unfortunately, the Seton Hall volleyball team did nothing to lift the spirits of the fans inside Walsh Gymnasium, as the Pirates lost in straight sets to both Northern Arizona and LaSalle.

International Flavor: Lindberg looks overseas for recruits

After an onslaught of departures at the end of last season, Seton Hall men’s soccer head coach Andreas Lindberg and his staff left no stone unturned when scouting and recruiting for the 2019 season. Six prospects from across England, Sweden, Egypt, Israel and Malta comprised most of the nine-man freshmen class while seven transfer students also joined Seton Hall during the offseason. This whirlwind of incoming and outgoing players has not harmed the chemistry within the side, however, and Lindberg feels they are even more unified now than when he initially took charge last year.

Former Seton Hall great has number retired by Jackals

Isaac Pavlik wore the number 7 with the New Jersey Jackals, which was retired by the independent baseball franchise last Thursday. He is now only one of five players to have his number retired by the organization, including Hall of Fame member Yogi Berra. What is more remarkable about the former Seton Hall pitcher is that his jersey number is almost equal to the number of people he graduated with in high school.

Crinion emphasizes empowerment to women’s soccer

Change means a new approach, and as the new head coach for the women’s soccer team, Ciara Crinion understands that her ideas may not be the same as former coach Rick Stainton’s. Each coach has a different belief of how to conduct his or her program, and that is why Crinion is fully aware of her culture shock to the team.

Mamukelashvili, Cale, Obiagu lead Pirates in Italy

After final exams ended last May, the more than 5,000 members of Seton Hall’s student body went in different directions. Some returned home to other states or countries, many spent the summer months at jobs or internships, and others got some much-needed rest and relaxation. For the men’s basketball team, however, summer was just another season in the yearly grind of being a Div. I athlete. In addition to the usual summer league circuit and practice sessions in the rec center, the basketball team spent 10 days in Italy from Aug. 7 - 16.
