Seton Hall finally has a president

In an email to the student body on Monday, Chairman of the Board of Regents Patrick Murray announced that the board had appointed Dr. Joseph Nyre of Iona College to lead the University. The position has been filled in the interim by Dr. Mary Meehan, who assumed the role of Interim University President following the departure of Dr. Gabriel Esteban to DePaul University in July 2017. Nyre will officially assume the position on Aug. 1.

IHS campus suffers water main damage from weather

A water main break at the Interprofessional Health Sciences campus on Jan. 21 caused water damage to the west side of the building, which resulted in canceled classes the following two days.

‘Spotlight’ lawyer accuses Newark archdiocese of defending abusive priest

Mitchell Garabedian, the celebrated lawyer known for representing the sexual abuse victims of Roman Catholic priests in the Boston area, recently accused the Archdiocese of Newark of blaming the alleged victims of Rev. Michael “Mitch” Walters in order to protect him. Walters is accused of abusing five boys and one girl decades ago. Walters graduated from Seton Hall in 1977 with a BA in religious studies.

Minimum wage hike means higher pay for student workers

Governor Phil Murphy (D-NJ) and New Jersey state lawmakers reached an agreement on Jan. 17 to raise the statewide minimum wage to $15 an hour, fulfilling a key campaign promise made by Murphy to voters in 2017 while running for the office.

Student shares passion for acting

Raised in the suburbs of San Francisco in Palo Alto, Calif., Elizabeth McCole, grew up in the high-pressured environment of Silicon Valley, where she was expected to graduate from a top college and get a job as a highly-paid professional. Instead, she decided to move to the East Coast to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Now a senior Theatre and Communication double major at Seton Hall University, McCole has proven herself time and again on stage.

Professor awarded national ranking

On Jan. 11, Dr. Robert Kelchen, an Assistant Professor with the Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy, ranked No. 32 out of the top 200 professors a group of national educators ranked, which looked at approximately 20,000 faculty in total. Education Week and American Enterprise Institute made this announcement.
