DOVE offers assistance to Hurricane Dorian victims

In the wake of the Category Five storm that ripped across the Atlantic Ocean in early September, ravaging the Bahamas and Southern U.S. coastline, Seton Hall University’s Office of Mission and Ministry is orchestrating a drive for victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas through Catholic Relief Services.

Student government swears in new senators

A new batch of Student Government Association senators were recently sworn in. They include three Freshman senators, one Communication and the Arts senator, and two senators for Arts and Sciences.

Pirate Sports Network modifies approach to news reporting

The Pirate Sports Network (PSN), a fully student-run organization, has been producing live content for the past couple of years. The primary focus of the organization is to produce live games for varsity sports at Seton Hall, but this year the organization has turned its content up a notch by adding different feature length pieces. “A Pirate’s Life,” the main one gives a more in-depth look at some of the student-athletes at Seton Hall and their extensive backstories.

SGA restructures voting procedures in finance committee

Student Government Association Treasure Divine Tanamal and Finance Committee Chair Ronald Babiak announced a restructuring of the finance committee which will shrink the number of voting members down to four non-SGA students and three student senators. According to Treasurer Tanamal the smaller number of voting members will create a space for debate on the allocation of funds which was lacking when the membership was larger.

TurboVote continues to partner with the University

Through a partnership with TurboVote, Seton Hall University will continue its effort to encourage students to get out and vote. TurboVote, a non-partisan organization that helps students sign up to vote is meant to push students to be more politically engaged and participate in the upcoming election season. This service is especially targeted at out-of-state students, with its focus on absentee ballots.

Seton Hall students make waves with model UN themed podcast

According to The New York Times report from March, podcast listeners have significantly increased in the last year. Research conducted by Edison Research and Triton Digital, an audio technology and advertising company, claimed that podcast listenership has increased among all age cohorts. The New York Times wrote that 40% of people between the ages of 12 and 24 listened to a podcast in the last month, which is a 10% increase from 2018.

Provost updates campus on diversity and inclusion

Interim Provost Karen Boroff sent out an email to the University community on Sept. 9 updating students and faculty on Seton Hall’s attempts to address diversity and inclusion initiatives in the months since the initial Concerned 44 protests.

SHU makes progess on athletic field

After a long renovation process, Owen T. Carroll Field is finally scheduled to be finished by the end of September. The renovation, which began during the spring of 2019, was the reason why the Seton Hall University baseball team had to play all their games on the road.

Students beef over fish

The Seton Hall Veggie Society circulated a petition Wednesday morning in the Galleon Hallway, advocating for the ban of the live sale of fish by on-campus organizations and charging that the practice is unethical.
