Seton Hall’s South Orange campus will serve as a coronavirus testing site for Essex County residents and the University community on Thursday, Nov. 19, according to University officials.
The Seton Hall men’s basketball team “has paused all team activities due to positive COVID-19 test results,” the school’s athletic department announced Wednesday night.
Seton Hall University will transition entirely to online classes for the remainder of the semester, effective Thursday, following a spike in coronavirus cases both on campus and statewide President Joseph Nyre announced in a campus-wide email.

For the second consecutive day Seton Hall saw its highest number of daily coronavirus cases on Tuesday, detecting 12 cases of COVID-19 through its testing protocol on Tuesday and an additional case on its Interprofessional Health Sciences campus in Nutley for a total of 13 cases.
Indoor dining in New Jersey will no longer be permitted between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. effective Nov. 12, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced at a press conference Monday.

Seton Hall reported six additional cases of the coronavirus among its student population on Wednesday evening, five of which were detected in students who are based at the South Orange campus and one from Seton Hall’s Law School.
A Seton Hall professor and virologist said the University should consider a switch to remote learning after a rise in cases near the South Orange campus.
After seeing a rapid increase in cases last week, the University reported “much-reduced numbers” in the past few days according to an email sent from the Health Intervention Communication Team, and reported no new positive tests on Thursday.
As COVID-19 cases increase throughout the nation, the CDC reported a drastic increase in the virus at the start of October among adults aged 18 to 22. The CDC indicated the likelihood that some of the increase is linked to the resumption of in-person attendance at some colleges and universities. Their previous reports show that young adults are less likely than other age groups to adhere to some COVID-19 prevention measures.
Coronavirus cases have continued to rise within the University community, with the Seton Hall reporting one additional case on Wednesday for a total of 35 cases in October alone, at least 15 of which were said to be either “related” or detected through contact tracing.
One off-campus and two on-campus cases of the coronavirus were detected through Seton Hall’s testing protocol on Tuesday, according to a late-night update to the University’s dashboard. The numbers come after the University reported no new cases for the first time in six days on Monday.

Seton Hall reported eight new cases of the coronavirus early Sunday morning, pushing the total number of cases the University has seen since the start of the semester to 37. Seven of the cases, which were detected on Saturday, were reported in five off-campus and two on-campus students all connected to the South Orange campus. Seton Hall reported six new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the University’s total cases since the pandemic began to 36. Twenty-nine cases were reported since the fall semester began, with 19 cases — nearly two-thirds of the semester’s total — reported in the past week alone.
Seton Hall recorded four new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday evening, its highest single-day increase. According to the Health Intervention and Communication Team (HICT) dashboard, three of the cases appear to be related to another confirmed case from Oct. 20 – another first for the University which, until this point, had only reported isolated cases.
Dozens of students entered isolation after “super-spreader events” were blamed for COVID-19 outbreaks at Monmouth University and Iona College this week.
South Orange Village President Sheena Collum announced five new coronavirus cases in the Village on Monday. According to Collum, the cases all appear to be unrelated but noted that in the last several days the Village has been made aware of “large house parties” within the Columbia High School community, which serves students from both South Orange and Maplewood.
