Head coach of the women's basketball team, Anne Donovan, will step down at the end of the season to take the helm of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA.
"My time at (Seton Hall University) has been extremely rewarding," Donovan said in a statement. "I commend the staff for their tireless and successful efforts in recruiting and elevating the program. I look forward to coaching and competing with this team for the remainder of this season."
Donovan has seen success in the WNBA, winning the championship in 2004 with the Seattle Storm. She began her coaching career in the WNBA as an interim coach with the Indiana Fever in 2000 and moved on the next year to coach the Charlotte Sting to the WNBA Finals in 2001. The Hall of Famer also was appointed the interim head coach of the New York Liberty in 2009.
Donovan has racked up 167 wins as a coach in the WNBA, the fifth most all-time in the league.
Despite success in the WNBA, the Pirates have won only two conference game's in Donovan's two seasons as head coach, despite several close contests.
The Pirates (5-8) will begin their Big East schedule on Saturday as they host Pittsburgh in Walsh Gymnasium.
