The Pirates finished first on Tuesday at the St. John’s Invitational with a 15-stroke team victory. The first place finish is the team’s second on the season, previously finishing in first at the team’s season-opening invitational, the Bucknell Bison Invitational a month ago on Sept. 7. Freshmen Cassie Pantelas led the Pirate’s second win this fall, and secured her first career title.

The invitational, in its third year, is played on 71-par course at the Saint Andrew’s Golf Club. The fourteen teams competing against the Hall include St. John’s, Farleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Hofstra, LIU-Brooklyn, Monmouth, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. Francis and Towson. The 68 golfers participating played the first round on Monday and the last 18 holes on Tuesday.
The first round of the tournament began with juniors Karlie Zabrosky and Megan Tenhundfeld, seniors Alison Kruse and Erin McClure, and lone freshmen Pantelas representing the team. Senior McKenzie Cutter and freshmen Macky Fouse also competed on the course as individuals.
Pantelas, playing her fourth collegiate tournament, quickly made her presence known as she shot an impressive 3-over-par, 74. By the end of the first round she was only trailing the board leader, LIU-Brooklyn’s Marisol Doglioli.
The team collectively placed second by the end of the day with Tenhundfeld shooting 6-over-par, 77, Kruse 7-over-par, 78, McClure 11-over-par, 82, Zabrosky 12-over-par, 83.
Cutter tied for 16th place with a 9-over-par, 80 and Fouse shot a 14-over-par, 85.
Collectively the Pirates would shoot 27-over-par, 311 to trail LIU-Brooklyn.
Pantelas again would lead the team dominating the last 18 holes shooting an intimidating 2-under-par, 69. The freshmen would take first place in the tournament shooting an overall 1-over-par, 74-69-143.
The Pirates would pull away from the competition as the rest of the team contributed to the 15-stroke team victory. Tenhundfeld would finish the tournament tying for third place, just one stroke away from second place, with a 9-over-par, 77-74-151. Kruse tied for 14th place with a 17-over-par, 78-81-159. McClure tied for 21st place in the tournament shooting a 23-over-par, 82-83-165. Zabrosky finished in 20th place with a 20-over-par, 83-79-162.
Cutter would finish tying for ninth place with a 15-over-par, 80-77-157. Fouse shot a 30-over-par, 85-87-172.
The team will end their fall season with the Princeton Invitation on Oct. 18-19, at Springdale Country Club.
