Where Are They Now: 2008-2009 Pirates edition
The Setonian takes a look at two departing players from last year's men's basketball team and where they have ended up this summer.
Four years as a Pirate has helped lead Paul Gause into a potential athletic career. But at least for the time being, it will start on the gridiron and not the hardwood.
The recently-graduated guard was selected as a defensive back in the United Football League's inaugural draft last month by the Las Vegas franchise. He was one of 24 players selected by the team which now has exclusive rights to sign him.
The UFL, being seen by some as a "minor leagues" of sorts for the National Football League, will feature teams in Las Vegas, New York, Orlando and San Francisco for its "premiere" season. Gause's team will be led by former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel.
According to the league's website, the UFL plans for a fall season (with games being played on Thursdays and Fridays) that will conclude over Thanksgiving weekend with a championship matchup.
Gause was a standout football player during his high school days at Arthur P. Schalick High School in Pittsgrove. Playing both running back and cornerback, he earned All-State honors while taking home consecutive South Jersey Group I championships in 2003 and 2004.
He also set single season South Jersey records in 2004 for both total points scored and touchdowns scored.

Mike Davis, meanwhile, will continue his college basketball career in a very different setting than the New York metropolitan area.
The six-foot-11-inch center is headed down the Atlantic to Coastal Carolina University, as announced by the team's head coach Cliff Ellis last week.
He'll join the Chanticleers, a Big South program, which went 11-20 last year with a 5-13 conference record. As per NCAA transfer rules, Davis will not be eligible to play until 2010-2011.
"Mike has a seven-foot-five-inch wingspan, he's long and he's a big man down low but has range outside," Ellis said. "This is a tremendous low post signee for us."
UPDATE: It was announced in early September that Davis has transferred again, this time to St. Francis of New York. The Terriers are coached by former Seton Hall assistant Brian Nash.
