Seton Hall will hold its first annual Mr. and Ms. SHU contest at 8:30 p.m. on March 22, in Jubilee Hall.
The contest is sponsored by the Resident Student Association (RSA), and it will be based on three categories, according to sophomore Fatima Grupico, program coordinator of RSA.
"We've broken the contest down into three categories: evening wear, talent and Seton Hall trivia," Grupico said. "It is opened to any couples or friends that want to compete together. All participants have to attend Seton Hall."
According to Grupico, each participant must wear formal attire for the evening wear portion, demonstrate a talent as a couple and participate in the Seton Hall trivia.
"The trivia portion is based on things you learn throughout college and about the history of Seton Hall University. We may also include some sports trivia," Grupico said.
The contest winners will receive prizes, including a possible trip to Florida.
"The couple that wins the contest will receive a tiara and sash for the girl and a crown and varsity jacket for the guy," Grupico said. "We are also working on a prize of two plane vouchers to Orlando, but nothing is confirmed yet."
There will be a panel of judges which will consist of Housing and Residence Life staff. Participants will be judged for their overall performances in the three categories. Whichever couple has the highest score will win, Grupico said.
According to the event's flyer, registration is due by March 4. Those who would like to participate should contact Grupico through her Seton Hall e-mail.
Depending on how many people sign up for the contest, it should go until roughly 10 p.m. Admission to the event is free, according to Grupico.
"One of our members, Norah Rivera, thought of this idea and we all thought it would be such a wonderful activity, especially since its fun and entertaining," Grupico said.
Grupico said she hopes since the event is open to the entire University community, many people will attend.
"It's sure to be a good time," Grupico said.
