Seton Hall University, and the surrounding areas of South Orange, felt the tremors of a 5.8 magnitude Virignia earthquake minutes after 2:00 pm.
Pirate Alert sent out a mass text message to students at 2:17 pm explaining the situation, and noted that the evacuation of buildings on campus would not be necessary.
"A 5.8 magnitude earthquake was reported centered in Richmond, VA. Aftershocks have been felt in our area. At this time there is no recommendation to evacuate the buildings," the message said.
Multiple news reports based out of New York City have said that many office buildings were evacuated.
Washington D.C. felt the aftershock as well, which lead to the partial evacuation of the White House, Capitol building, and Pentagon.
