The Seton Hall softball team split its doubleheader in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday, in what was a reversal of fortune of Friday’s results. Following an extra-innings win against Appalachian State on Friday, the Pirates were defeated by the Mountaineers, 4-0, before beating the same University of North Carolina Greensboro team they had lost to the night before, 2-1.
In the first game of the double-header for the Pirates, Mountaineers pitcher Annaleise Kennedy held the Pirates to only two hits in seven innings of work, while striking out three.

In a day where her offense abandoned her, starting pitcher Mo Sobel had her least impressive start of the season. After entering the game with a 2-0 record, Sabel allowed three earned runs and three hits in the first inning alone. The big blow came from a Heather Josey single that drove in two runners.
Sobel went on to pitch one more inning, before being relieved by Chrisa Head. Head pitched efficiently, going on to finish the game for the Pirates. Over her four innings, Head allowed only a run on four hits and a walk.
On the offensive side of the field, the Pirates were overcome by Kennedy. It wasn’t that they were unable to reach base, as they walked five times, but the Pirates were simply unable to drive in runs, as the Hall stranded eight runners on base over the course of the game.
The Pirates knew that they would have to turn up their offense in the second game, and Alexis Walkden did exactly that against UNC Greensboro.
In the top of the fourth inning, Walkden blasted a home run over the center field wall to put the Pirates up 1-0. Although it was Walkden’s only hit of the day, it sent a message that the Pirates would not go down easy.
Reganne Camp pitched a stellar outing, going seven strong innings in which she allowed only one run on four hits. Her only blemish came in the fourth when a Spartan run crossed the plate stemming off of a sacrifice bunt.
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh inning, the Pirates knew they needed to muster up some offense, and got their spark from freshman Janae Barracato. After reaching first on a fielder’s choice, Barracato advanced to third on a wild pitch, putting her 90 feet away from giving the Pirates the lead.
With the game in the balance, UNC Greensboro pitcher Hannah Stiltner delivered another wild pitch, allowing Barracato to scramble home and put the Pirates up 2-1.
Camp wound up putting the lid on the game in the seventh, handing the Pirates their sixth win of the season, as they pull even to 6-6.
Having split both days of doubleheaders, the Pirates will look to notch a victory in what will be their final game in Greensboro, Sunday, Feb. 25 against the University of Virginia. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
