An 18-year-old freshman has been charged with fabricating the sexual assault incident that shook the Seton Hall campus earlier this month.
According to Patch.com, Laura Siegel, a native of Williamsburg, Va., has been charged with making a false report about a sexual assault. The news came to Patch.com through the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities told Patch.com that the offense can carry a six-month prison sentence.
After the initial story of an on-campus sexual assault broke during the morning of Nov. 17 via broadcast e-mail, Public Safety and Security increased efforts around the Hall, notably at the campus' two vehicle entrance/exit gates.
But on Nov. 19, the story changed - and a broadcast e-mail said the incident never occurred on the campus. A Star-Ledger story shortly thereafter said the incident was off-campus instead.
