Seniors Ali Kruse and Erin McClure were each able to shoot a 7-over-par, 79, to lead the Seton Hall women’s golf team in Round 2 at the Raleigh Regional of the 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships on Friday afternoon.
Kruse had an up-and-down day. She had two double-bogeys on her front nine, but also a pair of birdies. For the tournament, Kruse is tied for 55th place with a 10-over-par, 75-79-154. She trails the individual leader, LSU’s Madelene Sagstrom, by 16 strokes.
McClure had a rough beginning to her round, too, shooting 6-over-par through the first five holes. She was able to find her stroke and settle down, shooting 2-under-par over her next nine holes. McClure ended up with three birdies on the day.
Karlie Zabrosky started her day strong with five pars and a birdie, but she was not able to uphold that level of play the rest of the round. With five bogeys in her final 12 holes, Zabrosky finished with an 8-over-par, 80. Now, for the tournament, Zabrosky is tied with McClure at 13-over-par with a 77-80-157 through 36 holes.
Megan Tenhundfeld finished with an 8-over-par, 80, and freshman Cassie Pantelas shot a 10-over-par, 82, in Round 2 for the Hall.
Through two rounds, SHU has been inconsistent and not been able to really get it going as they had all year. No player has been able to have a true breakthrough just yet. The Hall shot a 30-over-par, 318, on Friday and for the tournament, the Pirates are 51-over-par with a 309-318-627. They trail the overall team leader and top seed, South Carolina, by 46 strokes. The Gamecocks have an eight-stroke lead over Alabama heading into the final round on Saturday.
SHU will look to finish strong on Saturday afternoon as the team still has the opportunity to take 16th-place in the tournament. Wichita State is only three strokes ahead of the Pirates with the final 18 holes remaining.
