The Seton Hall Student Nursing Association hosted its annual Health Fair and Blood Drive on the Green on April 16.
Students from the SNA educated others about topics such as breast cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, stress, high blood pressure and CPR.
There were areas for blood pressure screenings as well as a blood donation station. The Neighborhood Watch and the South Orange Police Department also were part of the fair.
"We do this every year to promote health and a sense of community," SNA President Kelly Fristensky said.
There were also physical activities such as rock climbing, a pushup and situp contest with the ROTC, "Hula Hooping for the Heart" and Falun Dafa, a traditional practice that increases energy and vitality and relieves stress and anxiety. Refreshments were served.
"In the day and age we live in, if you want to follow your dreams you have to be healthy," SNA Treasurer Monica Alvarado said.
"Since a lot of people don't go to the health center, this is a good way to educate people," freshman anthropology major Ruth Dorton said.
There was a ribbon cutting ceremony with President Dr. A. Gabriel Esteban, Dean Phyllis Hansell, Father John Dennehy and Father Gerry Buonopane.
Relay for Life was advertised at the Health Fair. Relay will be held on April 26 in the field house in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. There will be a DJ, hypnotist, double shot basketball, spin art and other games and activities. There will also be opportunities to order food from Stony's and Cold Stone Creamery.
"It's really amazing to see hundreds of students and people from the community come together to raise money for a cause that has touched all of our lives in one way or another," Colleges Against Cancer Vice President Nicole Marchese said about Relay.
