Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Larry A. Robinson announced on Monday the new dean of the School of Diplomacy and International Relations will be Dr. Andrea Bartoli.
He sent out an email to the Seton Hall Community that said, "Dr. Bartoli is a highly accomplished scholar with an illustrious career in academia, higher education administration, diplomacy and international conflict resolution."
Bartoli served as dean of the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University from 2007 to 2011, founded and directed the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, served as chair of the Columbia University Seminar on Conflict Resolution and launched their MA degree program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, according to Robinson.
"Dr. Bartoli is a highly collaborative scholar who has a record of publishing with colleagues and students," Robinson said in his email. "His primary research endeavors have been related to genocide prevention and international conflict resolution."
He also said Bartoli served as the Permanent Representative of the Community of Sant'Egidio to the United Nations and the United States, served in peacemaking processes, such as Mozambique, Guatemala, Algeria, Kosovo, Burundi and Casamance, has participated in the U.S. State Department's testimony on Religious Persecution Abroad, served on Congress and has been a member of the Department of State's Religion and Foreign Policy Working Group.
Bartoli has overseen development and implementation of interventions by the Center for International Conflict Resolution and the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution in Burma/Myanmar, East Timor, Columbia, Iraq and the African Great Lakes Region. He has worked with the United Nations, the World Bank, the Global Coalition to Prevent Armed Conflicts, the Ford Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the European Union and Parliamentarians for Global Action, according to Robinson.
"Dr. Bartoli's experience and expertise as well as his collaborative and student-centered spirit are an exceptional fit for the School of Diplomacy and International Relations," Robinson said.
Robinson thanked Ambassador Thomas Melady, in his email, for his service as Interim Dean of the Diplomacy School, as well as all of the help the School received in the search for a new dean.
