Men express frustration with lack of locker room

The construction at the Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center has presented conflicts with the men's changing room, forcing its users to find new places to change.

Student Dan McCormick said that the cold weather has caused him to cut down his gym time from six times a week to only four.

"It is hard because I can't change when I want to," McCormick said. "I've had to walk in the cold in shorts and a T-shirt."

However, freshman Steven McComb said he feels that the renovations in the Rec Center do not pose such a great issue.

"Personally, it doesn't affect me," McComb said. "I just change in my dorm room."

Occupational therapy major Dave Katz mentioned how much of an inconvenience it is that the men's locker room is out of service.

"I can't put my stuff down anywhere now because I don't have a locker," Katz said. "Otherwise, I'll risk it getting stolen."

Freshman James Pinnock said he has also been facing this problem each time he has visited the Rec Center.

"Not having locker rooms is hard because I want to play basketball and workout," Pinnock said. "But there's no place for me to put the basketball when I'm done so it won't get stolen. So, now I just don't bring it with me."

According to student Jorge Gomez, the men's locker room being closed has also presented a major problem for him.

"I swim so I need the bathroom to change," Gomez said. "Usually, I swim five days a week or more. But now because of the locker room situation, I swim twice a week at max."

Freshman Tom Zappia, said that although he uses the gym, the men's locker room does not present a conflict in his workout routine. However, he said he understands what other students are going through.

"It's a shame for commuters who use the gym," Zappia said. "Now, they don't have anywhere to change and if they do change, they have to worry about people seeing them change."

Along with not being able to change, the construction also has prevented students and faculty from using the sauna.
