SHU students: come 'round to the Round

The Department of Communication and The Arts' Academic Theatre program is opening the curtains to this season's productions, offering many opportunities for new and old students with an interest in theatre.

According to Deirdre Yates, Professor of Communication, there will be a guest director and a student director in the main-stage season, as well as a musical.

The guest director is alumnus and adjunct professor Daniel Yates, who will be directing "Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare.

According to the Seton Hall website, the comedy describes the last twelve nights before Christmas in the Middle Ages, where people would play practical jokes on each other.

Performances will be Oct. 20-22 at 8 p.m. in the Theatre-in-the-Round and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.

"Picasso at the Lapin-Agile" by comedian and actor Steve Martin will be directed by student Jennifer Graham-Macht, art history major. The play revolves around the characters Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, their scholarly debates and their interactions with other characters. The show will also be performed in the Theatre-in-the-Round on Dec. 8 to-10 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.

The musical comedy "Baby" will be directed by Peter Reader, Associate Professor of Communication, at SOPAC on March 1-3 at 8 p.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m. The musical is based on a story about three couples' reactions to having a child.

"The musical explores the many ways that bringing a child into the world changes and challenges one's expectations through song and comedy," Reader said.

Deirdre Yates will be directing the satire "Resurrection Blues" by Arthur Miller. In the play, Jesus Christ returns in a modern Latin-American country, where the government plans to crucify him and sell the rights to an American television show.

Auditions are open to all students with no experience necessary. Dates for each audition can be found on the Seton Hall Theatre website under News & Events.

"We are extremely excited by all the opportunities this season has to offer," Yates said. "It will be a terrific season!"
