Women lose big at home

The Seton Hall women's basketball team lost their third game in a row Wednesday night, falling to the Villanova Wildcats by a score of 63-34 at Walsh Gymnasium.

With this victory, Villanova was able to snap their four game losing streak while continuing the Hall's streak of three straight losses.

The Pirates now fall to a record of 8-16 overall and 3-8 in the Big East. This win pushed the Wildcats above .500 in conference play with a Big East record of 6-5 and improved their overall record to 17-7.

The Pirates continued to struggle offensively shooting only 31 percent from the floor, including 30 percent from 3-point range.

Seton Hall came out of the gates slow, allowing Villanova to put up 13 points before senior Alexandra Maseko laid the ball in to finally get the Pirates on the board six minutes into the game.

Villanova started the second half in the same fashion, scoring 10 points compared to the Pirates' two in the first four minutes.

Freshman Tabatha Richardson-Smith was the Pirate's leading scorer for the night with 12 points reaching double-digits for the second game in a row.

Season leading scorer senior Brittany Morris added seven points on the night along with a steal. With one 3-pointer made in the game, she was able to put herself three long-balls away from the all-time record at Seton Hall.

The closest the Pirates got to their opponents was a seven point deficit late in the first half.

"I need to work hard in practice and just do as much extra stuff as I can," Richardson-Smith said on her play.

The Pirates struggled defensively, giving up double-digit points to guards Laura Sweeney and Devon Kane, who had 14 and 12 respectively. Sweeney also caused havoc defensively adding five steals and three blocked shots to her stat sheet.

The Wildcats took advantage of the three-ball going 7-14 from behind the arc.

The Pirates are keeping focus on moving forward confidently with the rest of their schedule.

"We have to pick our heads up and play as a team," Richardson-Smith said.

The Hall will look to snap their three game losing streak in their next game against the University of South Florida Bulls. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Sun Dome in South Florida.
