The University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) announced a partnership with Uwill, to help students reach therapists and other mental health resources based on their needs.
Uwill is a free online platform that students can access 24/7 through CAPS. This service can help students speak on subjects regarding school, home life and other concerns they may have.
According to Uwill, the platform already has 44 institutions statewide signed up for the mental health resource. Seton Hall was also one of the first higher education institutions in the state to partner with Uwill.
Bianca Reid, a junior political science major, said she thinks it’s a “great source.”
“This tool could help more people seek help who were scared to do it before,” Reid said.
In May 2023, the New Jersey state government partnered with UWill to provide its services to students at New Jersey institutions at no cost.
According to NJ101.5, Karen Van Norman, associate vice president and dean of students, said she believes it will be a success for students at Seton Hall.
“We've already had over 100 students sign up for Uwill and begin utilizing it," Van Norman said. "We know that number is going to grow exponentially when the fall semester kicks off."
The platform offers an immediate response when needed. UWill also has a direct crisis hotline for those in need to talk at all times.
However, some students believe that introducing an online resource may not benefit all.
“I feel like an online tool will be useful for some people,” said Ashley Mathew, a junior computer science major. “But I think talking person to person, especially when speaking on mental health, will benefit people more.”
