The women's tennis team is set to play its second Big East match of the season against Villanova on Saturday, after losing two straight games this weekend.
The Hall (5-4) was defeated by St. John's 5-2 in Queens on Friday, ending the Pirates' five game win streak.
After losing the first set 5-7, sophomore Courtney Kilarski went on to win the next two matches 6-4, and 10-6.
Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe also conquered a win at No. 6 with a score of 6-4 and 6-4.
However, four players were winless in singles. Freshman Karina Cordero, who played No. 4 singles, lost 6-0 and 6-4 in two matches.
Junior Belfin Sunbul also fell 6-0 and 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, sophomore Elizabeth Verow was defeated 6-1 and 6-3 in two games. Senior Denise Liebschner lost 6-4 and 6-1 in No. 1 singles, making it her first loss in five matches.
Seton Hall's troubles rolled over into doubles competition, where the Pirates were once again winless.
The Red Storm (4-8) defeated the Pirates in all three doubles matches.
Liebschner and Sunbul led 6-3 early in No. 1 doubles match, but let the game slip through their fingers, losing 8-7 in the end.
"The first day against St. John's, everyone had a bad day," Liebschner said. "That's what happens in sports. Michelle and Courtney at No. 5 and 6 did a good job at stepping up, but everyone else just lost focus and weren't playing at their best."
The Pirates' woes continued in their match against New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hall lost No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
NJIT defeated the Pirates in all three doubles matches as well.
"Against NJIT, we did a much better job than before," Liebschner said. "It really came down to doubles and we couldn't step up and win it."
The Pirates did manage to defeat the Highlanders in three singles matches. Liebschner won 6-3 and 6-2 in two matches in No. 1 singles.
Kilarski and Weerasinghe were victorious again at No. 4 and 5 singles.
Liebschner lost her match on Friday, but was able to come back and defeat NJIT's No. 1 player the next day with that mentality.
Liebschner and Seton Hall continue to be positive with their upcoming match against Villanova.
"Since we beat Villanova last year, we're really excited and look forward to playing in the Big East where we know we can beat them," Liebschner said.
Seton Hall will play Villanova at 1:30 pm on Saturday at the Villanova Tennis Complex in Philadelphia
