The Seton Hall tennis team registered both singles and doubles wins against all three opponents they lined up against this past weekend at the Harvard Fall Scramble in Cambridge, Mass. The Hall faced Middlebury on Friday, followed by hosts Harvard on Saturday and Rhode Island on Sunday.
Luize Strike represented the Pirates in their first singles match on Friday and captured a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Melody Taal suffered a loss in the next match, but Michal Matson and Thandy Kangwa followed up with consecutive wins. However, things would end on a sour note with both Anniek Jansen and Krista Cerpina unable to secure victories in the Pirates final two singles matches.

In doubles, Luize Strike and Thandy Kangwa combined to sweep their opponents, 6-0, seizing victory for the Pirates. Michal Matson and Melody Taal followed in their footsteps and won, but by a closer score-line of 6-4. Anniek Jansen and Krista Cerpina lost the final doubles match of the day, 6-1.
On day two, the Pirates ran into hosts Harvard, who playing confidently, beat Seton Hall in all six singles matches. Seton Hall would get some consolation in the doubles, as the Pirates netted wins in two of the three matches. The duo of Luize Strike and Thandy Kangwa notched a victory 6-3, while Katie Kim and Krista Cerpina prevailed 6-2. Michal Matson and Melody Taal were unable to complete the doubles sweep, as they lost 6-3.
The Pirates played Rhode Island in day three, and reflected their performance on Friday, with three singles win and two doubles wins. How they went about getting those wins, however, was different as Luize Strike lost the first singles match 6-2, 5-2. Thandy Kangwa avenged her teammate and won the next match in striking fashion, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3. Michal Matson followed up Kangwa’s classic with a 6-2, 6-4 loss, but the Pirates rallied for three consecutive victories thereafter to close out singles play.
The duos of Melody Taal and Michal Matson, along with Anniek Jansen and Krista Cerpina came out on top in doubles play on Sunday, while Luize Strike and Thandy Kangwa were unable to register their third straight doubles win.
The Pirates hit the court next on Wednesday, Oct.18 at the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia Pa, with the tournament set to last until Monday, Oct. 23.
