The scoring woes continued for Pirates’ women’s soccer, who fell to 15th-ranked DePaul Blue Demons (9-0-2) in Thursday’s home match.

The Hall had promising shots late in the first half, but each was deflected by DePaul goalkeeper Alejandria Godinez, who made two saves on en route to the shutout.
Pirate goalkeeper Ilissa Blackshear shut out DePaul in the first half, facing seven shots and making an early save, one of two saves the sophomore West Orange-native made.
Blackshear also kept the game scoreless in the second half as a DePaul offense became more aggressive, culminating in a goal for the Blue Demons by senior mid-fielder Amber Paul.
The Pirates inability to score in the final minutes of the game put this one in the books and for the seventh time this season the blue and white were held scoreless.
“Defensively we’ve been pretty good the entire season,” head coach Rick Stainton said. “It’s all about the build-up and execution. It’s not for a lack of getting opportunities…it’s just what we do when we get in those dangerous areas and for now we’re not doing enough. We train so that it will come together and execute well. Every game has been better We have to keep at the grind and keep going at it to keep giving ourselves more opportunities so we can execute.”
The Pirates were pleased with their performance against undefeated DePaul. “Today was a great performance, we played one of the great teams in the country. We competed until the end” Stainton said. “Tomorrow morning we transition to Creighton. We’ll make our adjustments and we’ll prepare for them.”
The Pirates travel to Omaha, Nebraska for their match against Creighton this Sunday. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
