Mobile electronic device charging stations will be installed on campus, it was announced at the Student Government Association town hall meeting on Tuesday.
Speaker Drew Holden revealed to a packed Chancellor's suite of about 100 students and administrators that a station compatible with the iPhone 4s, 5s and Android devices has been confirmed for the Living Room near the printer.
Holden said the SGA also hopes to receive approval for a station in the library.
"I think we need (the charging stations)," Holden said. "It is a serious commitment to solving student issues."
The town hall forum served as a platform for SGA to let students know about other recent changes made to campus.
The Student Life Committee looking into dining and sustainability reported that the process to eliminate Styrofoam cups from the cafeteria has been completed, and in an effort to make Seton Hall more eco-friendly, only recyclable cups will be purchased from now on.
Chief of Staff Ryan Kane, and Sen. Wesley Satterwhite, along with members of the Student Life Committee discussed the proposed smoking policy.
They explained that the "25-foot" rule would be a policy that would require cooperation from the student body to create a more smoke-free culture on campus.
This policy was developed from evaluation of and comparison to other college's smoking policies.
Holden said that this Town Hall meeting had the best attendance SGA has seen in years.
"I think we've been able to make more of a change this year and are continuing on some great initiatives," he said.
Issues brought up in open forum included parking, lack of lighting outside of Ward Gate, a need for crosswalks in heavy pedestrian areas on campus and cafeteria food quality.
Holden explained how these issues would be addresses.
He said, "We plan to sit down by committees and discuss the feedback we've gotten, try to isolate issues that came up repeatedly and see how best to move forward."
