The Seton Hall men’s soccer team won their last home game of the season on Saturday, beating the University of Connecticut 1-0. With the win, the Pirates finished their home-schedule undefeated for the first time since 2003 and improved to a 5-1-2 in-conference record.
Goals
59’: Maurice Williams headed in a nice cross off a James Boote corner kick. Williams found himself wide open on the far side of the net for his first goal of the season and first goal in a Seton Hall jersey.
Breakdown
Saturday's game followed a similar flow as the first meeting between these two sides that ended in a goalless draw: Seton Hall dominated for most of the game but struggled to complete the final pass or put away their chances in the first half.
After a relatively quiet hour of play, though, the Pirates broke the deadlock through a corner kick. After Boote's first corner was headed out by UConn's defenders, his second found Williams unmarked at the back post ready to head the ball into the net.
With 30 minutes remaining, Seton Hall’s defense once again proved to be strong by not allowing UCONN to produce any real scoring opportunities. After today’s shutout, the Pirates have now outscored their opponents by a tally of 9-2 on the season.
Seton Hall will travel to Philadelphia next Saturday where they will face off against Villanova in their second-to-last Big East regular season game. They currently sit in second place in the East Division behind No. 2 Georgetown.
