The Seton Hall baseball team had four members selected in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft that took place over this past weekend.
Junior pitcher Brian Gilbert was drafted with the fourth pick in the seventh round (200th overall) by the Minnesota Twins. The junior right-hander went 4-4 with a 2.40 ERA and 49 strikeouts during his senior season.
Minnesota grabbed another Pirate in the 14th round when they selected outfielder Zack Granite.
Granite finished his junior season at the Hall hitting .304 with 70 hits and 59 runs scored. He was also named to the All Big East First Team as well as the New Jersey College Baseball Association (NJCBA) First Team and Seton Hall's Junior Male Athlete of the Year. Another Pirate, who was honored by the Big East and the NJCBA also heard his name called on draft day.
Senior right-hander Jon Prosinski was taken in the 10th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Prosinski finished his senior year with a 2.58 ERA and 7-4 record, striking out 82 batters. The Skillman, N.J. native was named NJCBA Pitcher of the Year for 2013.
The final Pirate selected was Giuseppe Papaccio with the second pick in the 18th round by the Chicago Cubs. Papaccio had a monster senior year at Seton Hall, hitting .365 with 85 hits and 53 RBIs. Papaccio was named NJCBA Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Big East and named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Third Team by Collegiate Baseball.
The four selections in the draft are the most Pirates taken in the draft sine six were taken in the 1997 draft.
