The swim and dive squads set out to Morgantown this weekend for their second meet and first away trip of the season. The two-day occurrence, a Big East vs. Big 12 matchup, saw 38 events for the Hall between Oct. 23 and 24. Success varied for both the men’s and women’s teams. The only Seton Hall conference win came from the women’s team in its strong closing efforts. The women’s conference record now stands at 3-2, with the men standing at 2-2. The women’s four second-place finishes helped lead the team over Butler, 262-87, to its lone Big East win of the weekend. They fell to Xavier, 191-158, and host West Virginia, 275-88. Seton Hall found success in the 400-medley relay, with the team of Aitana Robinson, Kylene Ronayne, Sydney Simpson, and Tessa Lindner powering a 3:59.86 second-place finish, ahead of all Big East squads. The women continued in the 200-free relay with the team of Ronayne, Lidner, Courtney McCardle, and Kat Carson finishing in 1:40.34, just two seconds behind first place. Seton Hall freshmen were a large part of both relay and individual events. Robinson finished as runner-up in the 100-back in 58.92 and McCardle finished second in the 200-IM in 2:13.55. While the men’s team was not able to capture a Big East win, its freshmen performances were also a bright spot, as the group’s four second-place finishes all came from its young guns. The men’s squad finished at the top of Big East teams after day one of the meet, but ultimately were beaten by both West Virginia, 266-93, and Butler, 177-154. Freshman Lior Grubert secured two second-place finishes, recording a time of 4:42.73 in the 500-free and a 1:54.66 in the 200-IM. Fellow freshmen Kyle Nash and David Rowe followed, as Nash placed second in the 200-fly with a time of 1:56.51 and Rowe was runner-up of the 100-back with a 51.52 mark. Both swim teams see their next action back in South Orange, as they have their final home showing of the fall on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for a dual meet with Monmouth University. Events kick off at 5:00 p.m. in Seton Hall’s Richie Reagan Recreation and Athletic Center. Elizabeth Swinton can be reached at elizabeth.swinton@student.shu.edu
