Dr. Maureen Gillette will serve as the new Dean of the College of Education and Human Services, effective August 1, as announced by the Office of the Provost.

“It is an honor and a privilege to work in the field of education and human services because what we do has an impact not only on students, but on their future students, clients and others whose lives they will touch,” Gillette said in an email interview.
Coming into Seton Hall, Gillette served as the Dean of the College of Education at Northeastern Illinois University since 2005. Prior to that Gillette was an associate dean at William Paterson University from 1999 through 2005, according to the email sent by the Office of the Provost.
“I am thrilled to be coming to SHU,” Gillette said of her new role. “I felt that it was time for me to move on so that a new leader could move the COE (College of Education) at NEIU forward. When I saw the position opening at Seton Hall, I thought that it was a good fit for me.”
Gillette added that she worked closely with Dr. Ben Beitin, chair of the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy and leader of the search committee for a new dean.
According to Beitin, the nine members of the search committee who reviewed the 20 candidates for the dean position included Beitin himself, SHU faculty and students. The fellow members of the committee were Dr. Joan Guetti, senior associate provost; Msgr. (Dr.) Christopher Hynes, director of the Police/Probation Program in the department of education leadership, management and policy; Dr. Alisa Hindin and Dr. Debra Zinicola, department of educational studies; College of Education and Human Services alumna Angelina Martino Finnegan (‘91/M.A. ’94); Ellen Bacon, secondary special education and history student; Ryan Hudes, Seton Hall Enrollment Management specialist and graduate student in department of educational leadership, management and policy; and Marianne Lloyd, associate psychology professor.
Two non-voting representatives were Guetti and Hynes, according to Beitin.
The search process took two months, Beitin added in an email interview. Beitin said that all candidates considered for the position were reviewed by the search committee and interviews were initially conducted via video calls. Once the candidate selection narrowed down to four people, interviews were conducted on campus.
“Dr. Gillette had extensive experience as a dean,” Beitin said. “She brings a strong background in many areas that are crucial for the College of Education and Human Services, such as managing successful NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) accreditations, oversight of online education programs and graduate programs, and experience at a Catholic university when she was an associate professor and department chair (of Teacher Education) at the College of St. Rose.”
Gillette said that her immediate priorities stepping into the role include accreditation for the College of Education and Human Services. Beitin added the College is preparing for the renewal of the CAEP accreditation (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) and that Gilette’s experience puts the college in the position to succeed.
