With the recent news of assistant coach Dwayne “Tiny” Morton leaving the Seton Hall men’s basketball team, it was only a matter of time before the Pirates found someone else to fill the position.
That someone is former Pirate Grant Billmeier, who confirmed on Twitter Friday night recent reports that his return to South Orange was imminent.

"I'm very appreciative of the opportunity Coach [Greg] Herenda gave me," Billmeier added on Twitter, referring to the leader of his old staff at Fairleigh Dickinson. "I learned a lot. I'm overly excited to work again for Kevin Willard and a great coaching staff to go along with a determined group of players."
Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press had previously reported that Billmeier, who was a part of the Pirates from 2003-2007, was expected to take over Morton’s vacant coaching spot.
In a statement from Seton Hall Athletics, Morton stated that he was going back to teaching.
“I had a great experience at Seton Hall working with Coach [Kevin] Willard, my fellow assistant coaches and our student-athletes, but my passion for teaching is strong, and I feel that is where I should be,” he said. “I wish Seton Hall all the best and am excited to watch the program continue its rise.”
In his days playing for Seton Hall, Billmeier stood at nearly 7’0” at center. He averaged 3.1 points and three rebounds per game.
Billmeier spent the last year serving as an assistant coach at the nearby Fairleigh Dickinson. Prior to his time with the Knights, he spent several years alongside Willard as the Director of Basketball Operations following his graduation from SHU in 2007.
With Billmeier and associate head coach Shaheen Holloway on-board, Willard will have two assistant coaches who spent their high school days playing basketball at St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth. The same goes for active Pirate and reigning Big East Rookie of the Year Angel Delgado, a big man like Billmeier.
