The women's soccer team suffered a pair of losses to fellow Big East opponents Syracuse and St. Johns last weekend, dropping their overall record to 6-8.
The Pirates lack of goal production continued on Sunday as they were shut out by St. John's University by a score of 4-0.
The Pirates were unable to produce a goal against the Red Storm, despite outshooting their opponents, 9-8. St. John's (6-7) led by two goals at the half, with goals scored by Runa Stefansdottir and Sandra Osborn.
Seton Hall threatened toward the end of the first half with near scores by junior midfielder Ashley Clarke and redshirt-senior Stephanie Soma, but came up just short on both attempts.
Missed opportunities seemed to be the theme of the match for the Pirates. Clarke nearly connected with junior Meghan Hayes for a score, but the shot sailed wide right early in the second half.
On the other hand, the Red Storm managed to capitalize on two more scoring chances in the second half. One came off the foot of Jen Gibbons while the final goal of the match came from a long shot by Megan Klement.
The Pirates traveled to Syracuse on Friday night, but they came up short in a 3-1 loss to the Orange, who improved to 6-4-2 after the victory. The lone goal for Seton Hall came from junior forward Katie Ritter.
Ritter's goal was not only her first of the season, but her 14th career goal tying Rita Massot for fifth place on Seton Hall's all-time goals scored list. She also managed to tie Andrea Scannapieco for eighth place with 31 career points at Seton Hall.
After the Orange took the lead with a header from Jenna Rickman, Ritter quickly responded by striking a goal into the top-left corner of the goal. Juniors Marie Klemme and Brittney Albrecht each recorded an assist on the score.
It was all Orange from that point on as they received goals from Alyscha Mottershead and Jackie Firenze to go up by two scores. Syracuse finished with a 14-3 shot advantage over the Pirates.
Seton Hall will look to rebound against Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 5, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to continue their four-game road trip.
