Alum creates internship program

A Seton Hall alumni and member of the Board of Entrepreneurial Studies at the Stillman School of Business created a new summer internship opportunity open to Seton Hall students.

Stephen Waldis, CEO and president of Synchronoss Technologies, titled the program START, which stands for Synchronoss Technologies Academic & Recruiting Training.

"The START program, which runs from May 2011 through August 2011, is open to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a career in computer science, engineering and software," Waldis said.

According to Waldis, Synchronoss Technologies is the leading global provider of on-demand transaction management technology.

"The company's ConvergenceNow®, ConvergenceNow® Plus+™ and InterconnectNow™ technology platforms enable communication service providers, cable operators, retailers/e-tailers and OEMs to automate subscriber activation, order management, provisioning and content transfer and synchronization of connected devices, across any network from any distribution channel," Waldis said.

Waldis said the internship was to help the company seek out locals for future employment opportunities.

"We created this internship because we wanted to tap into the local market and top schools and get potential future employees a head start with us," Waldis said.

According to a press release, the program is currently recruiting students for summer internships at both of Synchronoss' facilities in Bridgewater, N.J., and Bethlehem, Pa.

The press release and Waldis also said "Synchronoss plans to hire 50 interns with the intention of offering 15 select candidates full-time positions at the end of the program.

The select candidates may also qualify for tuition reimbursement."

Waldis said the internship will not offer course credit, but students will be paid.

The press release also said the company is looking for motivated students who demonstrate an ability to want to learn and work on challenging projects.

"We decided to offer the internship program to Seton Hall students because Our environment is one where passionate and creative minds come together to develop cutting edge technologies and we are always looking to expand our capabilities with local talent," Waldis said. "We know that the students of Seton Hall University are bright and motivated and we are extending this offer to them in hopes that they will consider starting their future careers with Synchronoss."

The company Synchronoss Technologies was created in 2000 by Waldis and has won a variety of awards including Software 500's Top 10 Companies, NJBiz Fast 50 Companies and Inc. Magazine's 500 Fastest Growing Companies.

Waldis received the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award three times.

Waldis is quoted on the website saying, "Synchronoss' company values provide the foundation for everything we do and our employees are the DNA of that foundation."

A 1989 graduate from the University, Waldis enjoyed his time at Seton Hall.

"I had the opportunity to meet many life-long friends and get to really know the NJ/NY market over the past 20 years," Waldis said. "I also enjoyed my days playing baseball at SHU."
