The women's golf team had a disappointing end to its season this weekend, finishing sixth out of eight teams in the Big East Championship.
The team finished the first round in third place, shooting a 13-over-par, 301. The next day, the team shot a 14-over-par, 302, and fell to fourth place.
"Going into the third round we felt good," head coach Sara Doell said. "The preparation felt good, and we felt that we could get it going."
But the third day is when the Pirates fell apart. The team shot a 23-over par, 311, in the final round which dropped the team to sixth.
Junior Christina Cant?? shot a 6-over-par, 222, over the three days (75, 71, 76) coming off of an injury that kept her out of last week's Brown Bear Invitational.
"It was a good way for (Cant??) to finish the season," Doell said. "It'll be a good motivator for her next season."
Despite the final round Doell said she is proud of the team's accomplishments this season.
"I'm so proud of them," Doell said. "I'm disappointed in the score, but not with them. I told them that I don't want them to let (the third round) cloud the season."
The season was a brilliant one for the Hall, highlighted by a tournament win at Rutgers, four second place finishes, three of which they finished one stroke behind first. Before the Big East Championship, the team's lowest finish was fifth out of a 17-team field at the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational.
The team is primed for a strong 2013-14 as well, as there will be no departures to the team according to Doell.
The team will also have sophomore McKenzie Cutter returning from injury.
