The men's basketball team used a 22-2 run to take control of North Carolina A&T on Sunday, eventually winning 77-66.
The run began with the Pirates trailing by four points towards the end of the first half. Sophomore Brandon Mobley caught a pass from junior Fuquan Edwin and slammed the ball home to start the run for the Hall.
"I was just trying to run the floor and I saw the opportunity," Mobley said. "That was a momentum changer."
The run continued into the second half with two baskets from Edwin and two free throws from Mobley.
Mobley set career highs in points and rebounds on the afternoon, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. This was his second double-double of his career.
"I really wasn't paying attention to my stats or anything like that," Mobley said. "I was trying to focus on not letting them score."
Head coach Kevin Willard said he could see Mobley doing this in every game, but it is up to Mobley to do it.
"I expect that from Brandon," Willard said. He should be a 23 and 10 guy. He has the skill to do it, he needs to have the will to do it."
The Pirates had three players score 20-plus points, with Edwin scoring a game-high 26 points, Mobley scoring 23, Cosby scoring 22.
The only other Pirate who scored a basket during the game was junior center Eugene Teague, who finished with six points.
"We've had a lot of funny box scores this year, and we're still winning games" Willard said. "Those are the guys when Eugene can't get the basketball that should get the shots."
Willard went on to say that the four Pirates who scored are the team's top options offensively.
"I want the ball to go through Fuquan and Eugene," Willard said. "With Aaron third and Brandon fourth."
With 1:55 remaining in the half, and leading by six Mobley went up for a dunk, ending any hope of a comeback from the Aggies.
Sophomore Harald Karlis did not play in the game, which Willard said was the thing he was not happy about during the game.
"The one thing I didn't like about it was that I wanted to play Haralds but he's been battling a bone bruise in his chest," Willard said. "We were a little small."
Willard said that Teague twisted his ankle in the second half of the game, and his progress will monitored before the next game.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday against Longwood at the Prudential Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
