[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="404"] Seton Hall Athletics[/caption] In an away match against St. John’s Wednesday night, the Seton Hall volleyball team mustered a victory over four sets (25-16, 25-12, 28-30, 25-20). This performance moved the Pirates’ overall record to an even 4-4, which ranks fifth overall in the Big East. All-Big East Second Team representative Amanda Hansen displayed her excellence Wednesday night, recording the first double-double of her career. Hansen recorded a match-high 18 kills (which leaves her two shy of 1,000 for her career) along with a season-high 10 blocks. She has stayed consistent with her success this year, recording 14 kills or more in the last 4 matches. Seton Hall made a strong impression early on and never trailed in the first two sets. The Hall dominated the first set, scoring 10 of the first 11 points, and further improving during the second set, even going on a 9-0 run to capture an 11-3 lead. The third set, however, included a more competitive display from St. John’s, who forced eight lead changes as well as 13 ties. The Hall sustained three match points, but couldn’t get the winning point, which led to three unanswered scored by St. John’s to seal a third set victory, 30-28. Despite St. John’s third-set renaissance, Seton Hall regained its momentum by scoring four of the first five points in the fourth set and preventing St. John’s from gaining ground for the rest of the match. Hansen recorded three straight kills, capping an 8-2 Pirates run, which gave the Hall a 15-8 advantage. Seton Hall then proceeded to seal the deal with a 25-20 victory, finalizing the four-set match win. Following Wednesday’s victory, Seton Hall will return home in its next match against Villanova, staged at Walsh Gym on Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. Josh Rhim can be reached at josh.rhim@student.shu.edu
