Athletic Director Joe Quinlan's five year career at Seton Hall has come to an end.
Quinlan announced his resignationon Sept. 24 and is effective Oct. 8, according to the athletic department's press release.
Taking over for Quinlan will be Deputy Director of Athletics Duane Bailey and Senior Associate Athletics Director Ginger Fulton, until a nationwide search for a new athletic director begins in Jan. 2011.
The press release stated that "Quinlan is resigning to pursue other opportunities."
"I am proud of what we have accomplished over the last five years," Quinlan said. "We've dramatically improved our athletics facilities, including renovations to Owen T. Carroll Field, the opening of the Jack &' Charlotte Lavery Coaching Center, and moving the men's basketball program to the Prudential Center. Both of our basketball programs are on strong footing."
Other notable events under Quinlan in his tenure at the Hall includes the hiring and firing of former basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez and the cutting of the track and field programs, which were led by legendary coach John Moon.
Quinlan's status at the university had been up in the air in the past months.
In January, former University President Msgr. Robert Sheeran denied multiple reports saying that Quinlan was going to be let go.
"We are thankful for Joe's leadership over the last five years," Seton Hall Dean of the Law School and overseer of the athletics department Patrick E. Hobbs said. "His work has provided the Athletics Department with a solid foundation for future success. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
The resignation of Quinlan leaves another position at the Hall vacant with the university still searching for a full time replacement for Sheeran as president of the university.
