Senior Taseen Peterson and winner of the South by Southwest Student Startup Championship will speak at Epsilon Nu Tau's National Conference on campus Saturday, April 12.
Epsilon Nu Tau is the campus' academic entrepreneurship fraternity.
Peterson entered his business, Notefuly Inc., into the SXSW Startup Championship and won the title of the 2014 Student Startup National Champion, which is why he was chosen to speak at the fraternity event.
Peterson defines Notefuly as a "mobile device Notes & Reminders service that bridges the gap between the Post-it note and the digital world."
Notefuly has been downloaded more than 4 million times and has generated more than $4,500 in sales.
It was also recently ranked No. 8 on the list of "America's Coolest College Startups in 2014" by Inc. magazine from over 100 companies in the country.
Peterson said he learned about the competition from Susan Scherreik, director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies of the Stillman School.
He credited Scherreik for her help with his team.
The competition began in December and ended on March 10.
Originally, there were 64 teams from 22 separate colleges that pared the contestants to the 32 semi-finalists and then to the final eight.
Peterson made it to the end and said he was enthusiastic about his win.
"Winning is always a great feeling," he said.
Peterson encouraged students to enter the SXSW Startup Championship next year.
He advised, "Prepare as much as possible, have fun and know your business."
In addition to winning the national title, Peterson said, he also won "a gold badge to the SXSW interactive festival, a cool trophy, $5,000 in Google cloud credits and connections to investors, mentors and media."
