The Seton Hall Pirates women’s tennis team will conclude their fall season this Saturday in the Bronx as they take on the Fordham Rams.
The Pirates are fresh off competition in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship that saw three members of the blue and white post victories.
The Pirates will turn to junior Hannah Liljekvist for success against Fordham. Liljekvist advanced to the round of 64 in last weekend’s competition before being eliminated by Boston College’s Lexi Borr in straight sets. The Sweden-native has been one of many bright spots for Seton Hall a season after being selected 2014 All-Big East team.
As they have done all season long, the Pirates will rely on their freshman in Saturday’s match. Of the four competing for the blue and white last weekend, two were freshmen including the duo of Luize Liva Strike and Marisa Quevedo. Like Liljekvist, Strike also had a spot in the round of 64. Strike would eventually fall in three sets to University of Pennsylvania’s Kana Daniel. Quevedo was competitive, but fell in her first match in straight sets 3-6, 4-6 to Farleigh Dickinson’s Shreya Pasricha.
Junior Julia Keenan will be looking to make an impact against Fordham. She recorded two singles victories and was one away from being the third Pirate in the main draw at last weekend’s regional meeting. Keenan was eliminated by Margarita Kotok of Buffalo in straight sets after coming out victorious in a three set 6-4, 4-6 10-8 marathon over Fairfield’s Sarah Stuhlman.
The match will be the first dual match of the 2014-2015 season. The Pirates will look to finish strong against a Fordham squad that also competed at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship. The Rams saw two members of their team, Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali, win their first round singles matches last weekend.
Seton Hall is heading into their last match of the season with a total singles record of 25-14 and an overall record of 11-13 in doubles play.
The Pirates will be out of action until the start of the Spring 2015 season.
