After the first day of the 2014 Big East swimming championships, the men's swimming team is in first place while the women find themselves in third.
The men rebounded from a disqualification in the 800-free relay event, finishing the first day of competition with 120 points overall.
The relay team of freshman Keith Carlino, sophomores James Logan and Tim Bosse and junior Zach DeLillo kept Seton Hall in the lead with a third place finish in the 200-medley with a time of 1:32.02, a season-best.
Carlino finished with the fastest leg of the race with a time of 23.55 seconds.
As for the women, record-setting performances rewarded the team with third-place finishes in the 800 yard freestyle relay and 200 yard medley relay.
The tandem of freshman Melody Bush, sophomores Cora Meehan and Rae Congdon and senior Kerrie Kolackovsky finished with a time of 7:35.21 in the 800 yard relay, a new program-best.
Bush and Kolackovsky returned to race in the 200 yard relay with sophomore Megan Mallon and senior Kelly Markwell, finishing with a mark of 1:44.60, also a school record.
Kolackovsky, who anchored the relay, finished with the second-fastest leg of the race with a time of 23.03.
The 1:44.60 time broke the previous school record of 1:45.23 which was recorded by a team highlighted by Markwell and Kolackovsky last season.
The teams return to the pool for day two of the championships from the Gloucester Institute of Technology.
Races will start at 10 a.m. tomorrow with the 50 and 500-yard freestyles as well as the 200 individual medley. The 200-free relay will take place in the night session.
