It took the men's golf team three rounds of play and a playoff hole against Northern Colorado to win the Fireline Towson Invitational this past weekend.
In the one hole playoff Northern Colorado recorded pars from all four golfers while the Pirates got three pars and a birdie from senior Troy Spencer to take home the title. Freshman Derrick Kim saved par on the playoff hole after finding a sand trap.
"We played well all tournament long," head coach Clay White said. "It's nice to see their hard work pay off with a championship. We've now won two of our last three tournaments and I think we've begun to turn the corner as a team that has a chance to win any tournament we enter."
Kim and senior John Dawson Neufeld led the Hall with identical scores, finishing at even par with scores of 216. Both players ended in a tie for fifth place in the tournament, seven shots behind Loyola-University Maryland's senior Jay Mulieri.
Sophomore Gary Dunne finished one shot behind Kim and Neufeld with a one over par 217 in a tie for seventh. Spencer, besides recording the tournament winning birdie on the 55th hole, finish six over par, while junior Brandon Park rounded out the team with a 15 over par.
The men's golf team will next compete in the Yale Spring Opener in New Haven, Conn. on Apr. 7.
