The Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Delaware St. on Wednesday by a score of 65-57 to increase the Pirates record to 4-4.
The win was fueled by sophomore Terry Green's career-high 21 points on eight of 11 shooting from the field.
The Pirates jumped ahead on a 12-0 run in the first half that stretched the lead to 30-12 with just under four minutes remaining.
The Hornets answered quickly, however, with a 12-2 run led by freshman Deanna Harmon to cut the lead to 32-24 at halftime.
With the Pirates again leading by double-digits in the second half, the Hornets responded with a 9-3 run that cut the deficit to seven.
Junior Kandice Green then scored four consecutive points for the Hall, followed by a short jumper from freshman Jazzmine Johson, expanding the lead to 11 with eight minutes left.
The Pirates put the game away with eight free throws over the final minutes, holding off the Hornets last push.
Terry Green made four three-pointers en route to her team-high 21 points, also recording three assists.
Junior Jasmine Crew tallied 11 points of her own, while junior Tajay Ashmeade led the Pirates on the glass, grabbing a career-high 11 boards.
The Pirates shot 41 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line, while Deleware St. was held to 29 percent shooting from the field.
The Hall also suffered two losses over the weekend at the Junkanoo Jam Tournament in the Bahamas.
In the consolation round, the Pirates fell to Auburn by a score of 85-51.
Seton Hall went behind early on, allowing the Tigers to take a 19-8 lead.
The Hall brought the score within eight until a five and half minute scoreless streak. Sophomore Alexandra Maseko made a layup to cut the deficit back to nine points. That was the closes Seton Hall would get, as Auburn stretched their lead to 42-28 into the halftime break.
"We were outmatched," head coach Anne Donovan said. "We just never raised the level of how we competed, from the beginning of the game to the end of the game."
Maseko's eight points led the way for the Pirates and marked a career-high for the center. Ashmeade had six points and a game-high nine rebounds.
In the first contest, the Hall fell to Boston College 85-46.
The Eagles scored the first seven points within the first minute of play, and jumped out to 9-0 advantage. Freshman Ka-Deidre Simmons scored the first Pirate field goal at the 15:41 in the first half.
A 17-2 run keyed the Eagles first half 38-9 lead with 6:59 to play. The Pirates then went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 20 points.
Simmons and Crew led the way for the Pirates with nine points each, while combining to make the only two three-point baskets of the afternoon for Seton Hall. Crew also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The Hall returns to action on Sunday when they travel to face William and Mary. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
