Redshirt senior Victor Manosalvas scored his fifth goal of the season in the 32nd minute to propel the Seton Hall Pirates (2-2-2) over the Monmouth University Hawks (4-1-2) in a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night.

It was a physical affair from the get-go. The match featured a combined 27 fouls from both teams, including five players being cautioned with yellow cards.

Manosalvas was the lone offensive spark for the Pirates, taking three shots, including two shots on goal, and scoring the lone goal of the game. “It was one touch to the box,” Manosalvas remarked on his goal. “I got in behind the defense, and placed it left post and it got in.”

“Unfortunately today was more of a battle than a true soccer game,” head coach Gerson Echeverry said, “The only thing we did was bunker down and grind this one out.” Echeverry went on to express the importance of this win moving into the Big East schedule. He hopes this win will ignite momentum and help his squad gain confidence moving forward.

Sophomore goalkeeper, Julian Spindler also played a standout game, earning his second straight clean sheet in the win. Spindler made four critical saves in the match.

The Pirates will now be starting a four-game road trip against Big East rival DePaul on Saturday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m.
