The Seton Hall community selected the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Business Ultrabook as the laptop refresh for rising freshmen and juniors this fall.
According to Chief Information Officer Dr. Stephen Landry, the Lenovo Yoga was chosen based on its 12.5 inch screen and up to eight hours of battery life.
"Students and faculty liked the longer battery life and the larger screen," Landry said.
Similar to last year's Mobile Computing refresh the Lenovo Helix, the Yoga can turn into a tablet. Although it is not detachable, the Yoga provides 4 GB more of RAM storage and is noticeably lighter than the Helix.
According to Landry, the Yoga is in between the size of the Samsung Clam (2012 refresh) and the Helix.
In January, the SGA and Faculty Senate IT Committee discussed the demo units sent to the University from various vendors. Other demo units considered included last year's Helix and the Microsoft Surface.
According to Landry, the Yoga won the bid because it best fit the needs of the students and faculty and provided the best quality for the price.
The laptop refresh is projected to begin at the end of July. "In 2012 the SGA recommended that the University move the Mobile Computing Refresh from the end of spring to the beginning of fall," said Landry. "So this year's refresh will take place in the summer and fall."
The delivery date of the Lenovo Yoga shipment has yet to be confirmed. However, the University sent a request to Lenovo for a delivery date at the end of June.
Once laptops are in, eligible juniors will receive emails with instructions on how to refresh their laptops, Landry said. Students who live near the University can arrange to refresh their laptops as soon as the delivery has arrived. Refreshes will be run by PC Support Services and continue through September.
