The Pirates were fueled by strong offensive performances from senior Tabatha Richardson-Smith, who had 29 points as well as eight rebounds, and graduate senior Shakenna Richardson, who tallied 20 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists. Seton Hall was able to maintain the lead from 7:44 in the second quarter on, and never let the Hoyas get on a large run to put the win in jeopardy. Seton Hall battled the Hoyas inside and won the rebounding match 40-39. Senior Tiffany Jones corralled 11 of those rebounds, as well as scoring nine points and recording a block. The Pirates also used strong free-throw shooting down the stretch, going 9-12 in the final six minutes, to seal the deal for their first win since Jan. 3 against Marquette. After coming out of the half up by three, Seton Hall would start out the third quarter hot, scoring on three of its first four possessions to extend the lead to eight. After a quick Georgetown run and a Seton Hall timeout, the Pirates would get easy layups and free throws to open up an 11-point lead with two minutes to go in the third quarter. Seton Hall would continue to lead by at least two possessions until late in the fourth quarter, where Georgetown sophomore Dorothy Adomako hit a jumper to bring the Pirates lead to just three. The Hoyas had a balanced attack from their starting five, with all starters scoring in double figures. Freshman Dionna White would lead the way for Georgetown with 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists. It just was not enough, though, as Seton Hall never let the lead get smaller than three points. Other key contributors for the Hall included senior Aleesha Powell with 12 points and redshirt freshman Jordan Molyneaux, who quietly had three steals and three blocks on the defensive end. The Pirates and head coach Tony Bozzella will look to build on the win when they come back to Walsh Gymnasium to take on Xavier on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Matt Lamb can be reached at matthew.lamb@student.shu.edu.
