The Seton Hall women’s volleyball team competed in the Hofstra Invitational this past weekend, going 1-2 against Dartmouth College, Columbia University, and Hofstra University.
On Friday, the team lost to Dartmouth in three straight sets. During the first set, the teams traded kills. Caitlin Koska and Abby Thelen led the way and combined for eight kills, but the Pirates ultimately fell 25-19.
The Pirates took off in set two with an 8-1 lead, but it was quickly diminished, and Dartmouth held on to take the set 25-22. The Pirates stayed close in the third set, never falling behind by more than two points, but Dartmouth was able to squeeze out the victory, 25-23. On the day, Thelen lead the team in kills with 16, and Maggie Cvelbar had the most digs with 13.

On Saturday, Seton Hall faced Columbia and hosts Hofstra. The Pirates started the day out strong by taking the match against Columbia in straight sets, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-17. During the match, Koska had 12 kills, seven digs, three service aces, and two blocks.
In the victory, Thelen also moved to eighth all-time in Pirates history for kills.
The Pirates ended the weekend with a heartbreaking five-set loss against Hofstra. Despite Seton Hall winning the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-19, Hofstra was able to fight back and take the next two sets 25-11 and 25-13. Both teams fought hard for the last set, but Hofstra ultimately came out victorious, 19-17.
Thelen finished with 16 kills and five digs in the final game. Koska, who already had a great match against Columbia, finished with a sparkling double-double: 14-kills and 12-digs. Miranda Higginbotham added a team-high 19 digs to compliment a seven assist performance.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, Sep. 19, when they begin Big East play against Villanova University. The first set will begin at 7 p.m.
