The women's soccer earned their first win in Big East play on Sunday,a 2-0 home victory over Villanova.
The Pirates improve their record to 6-4-1(1-1 Big East) on the strength of two goals from senior Stephanie Soma.
Sunday's win was a major bounce back effort for Seton Hall, following an 8-0 loss to Georgetown on Friday.
Head coach Kazbek Tambi said he was pleased with the way his team was able to turn their play around.
"Friday was a gigantic lesson for us," Tambi said. " We're capable of playing poorly and we're capable of playing excellent. We have to find our 'A' game every match."
Tambi said that the players met together to figure out a success formula for themselves.
"We left it up to the kids to get together and find the way to get themselves going," Tambi said.
The first multi-goal game in Soma's career now bumps her total up to four on the season, which leads the team.
Soma's first goal came 33 minutes into the first half on a header assisted by forward Kaitlyn Ritter and midfielder Ashley Clarke. For Clarke, her sixth assist of the season, tied the school record for assists in a season. Her 10 career assists rank fifth all-time in Seton Hall history.
The next goal came when Soma put home a rebound from a shot by forward Amie Rhue. Rhue had an active day for the Pirates, while playing 88 minutes she took four shots, landing three on goal and adding three fouls to the assist in her box score.
Seton Hall was dominant in the first half, out-shooting Villanova 17-2. Goalkeeper Gina Maiorana made one out of her three total saves in the first half. This shutout was the freshman's fourth of the year. She has five total wins in six starts.
Tambi said he couldn't single out one great performance in the game.
"The team really as a whole got the job done," Tambi said. "That's what it takes to be good in this league. They understood that they really had to work their butts off for 90 minutes."
The Pirates return to action Friday as they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. Owent T. Carroll Field.
