The Pirates and Butler Bulldogs drew 0-0 on Wednesday, bringing both team’s records in Big East play to 1-4-2.
The blue and white were aggressive throughout match. The Pirates fired 10 shots with six coming on goal. Sophomore Samuel Geiler led the Pirates with five shots, two coming on goal with one coming in the first overtime, but the potential game-winner was denied by freshmen goalkeeper, Eric Dick, one of his six saves on the evening.
For the Pirates, it was sophomore goalkeeper Julian Spindler in goal, making his 15th start of the season. The Weiersbach, Germany-native rebounded well after allowing three versus Providence. He had a busy match as the Bulldogs had 18 shots and forced him to make three saves.
Senior Victor Manolsaves was aggressive putting up two shots early, both coming on goal. Along with Manosalves and Geiler, three other players for the blue and white had three shots. Senior Kai Greene attempted a header in the 57th minute, but was saved by the Bulldogs. Redshirt sophomore Danny Bartok and Freshman Lukas Pangonis each had one shot in the match.
Butler’s sophomore David Goldsmith led the Bulldogs with shots. Goldsmith gave the Pirates a scare in the first half when he had three consecutive shots in a span of 12 minutes.
Meanwhile in the Big East, Creighton defeated Marquette 2-0 on Wednesday in a game with major implications for the Big East Championships, which begin on Nov. 11. The win gives 5-1-1 Creighton a berth in the conference tournament alongside Providence (5-0-2), Xavier (5-1-1) and Georgetown (4-2-1).
The Pirates will look ahead to their next match against Marquette on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
