A senior Seton Hall student has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2011 – 2012 academic year, according to James Kimble, assistant professor in the department of communication.
Meghan Dixon, an English major and journalism and public relations minor, will be traveling to Taiwan for eleven months during the 2011 – 2012 academic year, Kimble said in an email. Dixon is also a staff writer for The Setonian.
"I am so honored to be a Fulbright scholar for 2011-2012," Dixon said. "I chose Taiwan because I've always had an interest in Eastern Religion, particularly in the ways that they affect great works of art such as literature, paintings, etc."
According to Kimble, Dixon will be teaching English-language skills in the classroom, as well as work with students on theater performances.
Kimble said Dixon must attend an orientation in August. After completion, she will be assigned to an elementary or junior high school.
"I have worked in children's theatre, and hope to bring a touch of the theatrical to my teaching, eventually setting up drama projects for the students," Dixon said. "My love of teaching and exploring different cultures is what brought me to the Fulbright and specifically Taiwan."
According to Kimble, the Fulbright award will pay for all of Dixon's expenses in Taiwan such as transportation, living and medical insurance.
Dixon plans to continue her education after her stay in Taiwan. According to Kimble, she plans to pursue either English literature or theater management.
"I am very excited to represent Seton Hall in Taiwan," Dixon said.
Dixon is the University's 11th Fulbright Scholar.
