A golden ticket to the Golden Globes: This is a Seton Hall student’s claim to fame

He won the Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest—now he’s walked the red carpet at the Golden Globes, and featured in a Super Bowl commercial. Here’s a look inside Miles Mitchell’s journey to fame.

On Oct. 27, Miles Mitchell won the first-ever Timothée Chalamet Look-Alike contest in New York City’s Washington Square Park.

Mitchell took home a first-place trophy and a $50 check. The victory propelled him into internet meme stardom.

Since his victory, Mitchell has gained many new opportunities.

In December, Mitchell received a call from millionaire YouTuber MrBeast’s manager. MrBeast, an internet star known for his intense YouTube videos, invited Mitchell to create a video with other content creators in a New York City apartment owned by Ryan Serhant, a real estate broker known for his show, “Million Dollar Listing.”

“I kind of thought it would be like a ‘15 minutes of fame’ kind of thing, but that kind of really extended it,” Mitchell said. “What's crazy is that it was just all for a TikTok.”

Along with Mitchell, MrBeast invited Jersey Joe, a TikToker known for his “Jersey Club” dance videos, Anthony Po, a YouTuber who also created the Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest, Tamir Omari, a comedy content creator, Gina Lynn, the Chick-Fil-A sauce girl, Mike Amato and Seby Sarms, creators known for being a part of the “TikTok rizz party,” AJ and Big Justice, the Costco guys known for their reviews on Costco’s chicken bake and double chocolate chunk cookie, and The Rizzler, known for making a funny face.

“I couldn’t believe I was among all these well-established creators when I just started social media not even two months ago at that time,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said that MrBeast is one of the busiest people he has ever met. Just before filming the TikTok videos, MrBeast had touched down on a flight from Egypt.

“He’s actually a really genuine person,” Mitchell said. “I feel like some people think that when you get big enough, you turn into a narcissist, like you’re too good for people, but I never got any of those vibes when I met MrBeast.”

Out of all the content creators at MrBeast’s event, Mitchell said The Rizzler was his favorite to meet.

“He’s actually the funniest kid ever,” Mitchell said. “I’m such a big supporter of him because he’s genuinely such a really nice kid and his parents are both super nice and supportive of him.”

Besides meeting MrBeast and a group of social media influencers, Mitchell met his own look-alike, Timothee Chalamet, twice.

Mitchell first met Chalamet back in December at a private screening of his new movie, “A Complete Unknown,” the Bob Dylan biopic.

Chalamet was at the event, but Mitchell said he wasn’t sure if he was going to meet him since he was invited for viewing purposes.

“I knew he was gonna be there but I was positioned towards the front [in the theater], which gave me the opportunity [to meet him],” Mitchell said.

At the end of the viewing, Chalamet walked past Mitchell.

“I just reached out to him and I was like, ‘yo,’ and what's funny…[is] he asked me for a picture too,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said he felt like Chalamet was more excited to meet him than he was to meet Chalamet.

“He was like, ‘Oh s--t, oh s--t, yo, let's get a picture,’” Mitchell said.

Mitchell also said he enjoyed Chalamet’s performance in the movie and feels that Chalamet embodied Bob Dylan.

“I feel like with some celebrities, it's like you just see the celebrity in the movie and like, you don't see the character that they're portraying, but I never had that thought [about Chalamet’s performance],” Mitchell said.

Mitchell met Chalamet for the second time at the Golden Globes on Jan. 5. Mitchell said this time he was invited by CBS TV via Instagram DM and they wanted him to meet Chalamet again.

At the Golden Globes, Mitchell said Chalamet flew right through the red carpet.

“He ended up stopping for me to take the picture, which I really do appreciate, even though he was super busy,” Mitchell said. “I appreciate that he acknowledged me again.”

The red carpet photo with Chalamet was posted to Mitchell’s Instagram page.

Mitchell wasn’t the only look-alike at the Golden Globes—Glen Powell’s look-alike, Maxwell Braunstein, was also in attendance.

Both Mitchell and Braunstein held up signs that said, “I won a look-alike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes.”

Mitchell said that he was excited that he shared the moment alongside Braunstein.

“[It] might have been one of the craziest side quests of all time,” Mitchell said.

Besides meeting Chalamet for a second time and spending time with Braunstein on the carpet, Mitchell said the experience, as a whole, shocked him because he didn’t know much about the award show before.

“We spent three hours on the red carpet,” Mitchell said. “And then after they put us not in the ceremony room with all the nominees, but they put us in the engraving room.”

The engraving room is the room next to the theater where winners get their names engraved on their Golden Globe award. Mitchell said the room felt like a side party.

“It was all catered by Nobu and we would just see all the celebrities walk into the room,” Mitchell said.

However, Mitchell did not have the opportunity to speak to any.

“I got the vibe that I couldn't just approach celebrities and be like, ‘Oh my God, I'm your biggest fan,’” Mitchell said.

Although he did not approach anyone, he did have some interactions on the red carpet. The voice actress of Moana, Auliʻi Cravalho, came up to him and Braunstein, responding to the posters they held about winning the look-alike contest.

“She was like, ‘Wow, f–k yeah, you guys did,” Mitchell said.

Moreover, Mitchell had few interactions, he said he was starstruck by one celebrity in particular—Emma Stone.

“I literally have a tattoo of ‘La La Land,’ so technically I have Emma Stone on my leg,” Mitchell said.

For the month of January, Mitchell has been abroad creating travel content. He said he’s been to England, Iceland, Germany, and Scotland.

“I’m trying to integrate my YouTube channel and my other social media,” Mitchell said. “I'm combining my interests and it's all really exciting.”

Mitchell said he doesn’t only want to be known for looking like Chalamet, especially when it comes to content creation.

“I want to branch out of that at some point, but I'll take opportunities that come from that,” Mitchell said. “I’m in my discovery phase right now.”

Mitchell added that he plans to stick to creating travel and lifestyle content for now, as he will create more on his study abroad trip to Japan in April.

Now he’s returning to Seton Hall to finish his senior year. In May, Mitchell will be graduating with his bachelor’s in marketing and economics.

“Sometimes it can get pretty difficult to manage everything because especially last semester I was taking 18 credits,” Mitchell said.

Even though it’s difficult juggling the student and influencer life, Mitchell remains positive.

“Part of me kind of feels like Spider-Man in a cringy way like that,” Mitchell said. “It's the busiest I've ever been in my life.”

Since his interview with The Setonian, Mitchell was also invited to be on SNL with Chalamet on Jan. 25, but the timing didn’t work out. He was also featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Impossible Foods’ Impossible Chicken Nuggets.
