Pirates on a Roll After Beating Kent State, 3-1

The Seton Hall Pirates notched their third win of the weekend, defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes in four sets on Sunday.

The Pirates came into the game off two straight wins over the past two days, knocking off Sacred Heart on Friday, and NJIT on Saturday.

The first set saw Seton Hall go on an impressive run early on as they led 10-5 at one point. That was before the Golden Flashes responded by scoring nine out of the next 10 points to take a 14-11 lead. Despite a decent come-from-behind effort from the Hall, Kent State took the first set by a score of 25-20.

Just like in Friday’s game against Sacred Heart, the Pirates had a much improved second half offensively. Seton Hall improved their kill percentage from .091 in the first set to .283 in the second and managed to get four aces in the second set alone. Seton Hall took the set by a score of 25-18.

The third set was a thriller, featuring several lead changes. Kent State took a 24-23 lead with a chance to secure the set before Seton Hall roared back with a kill from sophomore Madison Loiselle, an ace from first-year Gwen Adler, and a block from first-year Grace Turner to secure the third set 26-24.

The fourth set featured pure domination from the Pirates; Seton Hall wasn’t ever losing the set. After it was tied 2-2, the score was never  tied again as  Seton Hall took the fourth and final set by an impressive score of 25-11.

Loiselle, as well as seniors Jenna Walsh and Reagan Merk, earned double digit kills for the Pirates. Walsh and Merk also got double-doubles, with 12 and 10 digs respectively. Golden Flashes senior Logan Henderson led the way with 10 kills of her own.

However, if there was a player of the game, it would have to be Pirates senior Maddie Klungel. Klungel was firing on all cylinders, notching seven kills, a team-high 17 assists, eight digs, and five blocks.

The Pirates will look to get over .500 on the year, as they head to Towson to take them on as well as Loyola Maryland and Coppin State on Sept. 13-14.
