Seton Hall fraternity Alpha Chi Rho, hosted their Habitat Humanity philanthropy week from April 8 to April 12, a week of events intended to raise money for their philanthropy.
The fraternity, commonly known as AXP, hosted a week involving interactive events intended to raise money for its philanthropy. The brothers of AXP participated in various events, including the ice bucket challenge, Pie-a-Chi, Balloon a Brother, AXPutt and Spin the Wheel on the campus green.
Shane Daniel, a freshman finance major and brother of AXP, said that they wanted to “raise as much money as possible.”
“Every dollar helps change someone’s life,” Daniel said. “Habitat needs the funds to help put roofs over peoples’ heads and give them a basic right they deserve.”
Daniel added that Habitat Week serves not only a great cause but the Seton Hall community as well.
“It’s a fun way for students on campus to have a good time and incentivize them to donate,” Daniel said. “It’s essential that they help raise money for those in need, especially to help build new housing and assist impoverished communities.”
Daniel also said students played a big part in the success of raising donations for the cause.
“Some people chose to ignore our table, but many chose to help those in need,” Daniel said. “It shows that the little things that college kids do can change the world.”
He said AXP helps forage connections on campus and foster an environment of brotherhood. Daniel initially joined AXP because it supports Habitat for Humanity and its mission.
“This year, I will hopefully be going on my fourth mission trip,” Daniel said. “The funds our school raises are very important because I am one of the people that has gone down and built homes for Habitat, and without the money, we wouldn’t even be able to buy the supplies.”
Another member of AXP, Joshua Senyszyn, a sophomore biology major, said tabling events allow the brothers to contribute to Habitat for Humanity.
“As the money goes up, the challenges get more interesting,” Senyszyn said. “Our top milestone is shaving a brother’s head when we reach $2,000 in donations.”
Senyszyn said his favorite challenge was AXP Factor, a talent show based on the hit British music competition series “The X Factor.”
“It really helps impoverished communities,” said Misha Savtchouk, a sophomore interprofessional health sciences major and member of AXP. “It serves real people in need of housing.”
“My favorite event is Pie-a-Chi,” Savtchouk said. “It’s good fun and people tend to enjoy getting us covered in shaving cream.”
He said the Hoops for Habitat event was another crowd favorite.
