A student died Monday after suffering a medical emergency in Neumann Hall.
On Wednesday, the University identified the student as Kristen McCartney, a sophomore diplomacy major from North Carolina.
The cause of death is unknown. In its note to the Seton Hall community, the University asked to respect the privacy of the student’s family.
“We are anguished at the loss of any member of our University family, but especially at the death of a student,” University President Joseph Nyre said after McCartney died on Monday. “We ache with the knowledge that someone so young will no longer be present among us, and we mourn with family and friends who are being told of this loss.”
In an email to the University community Wednesday, Nyre relayed a message from McCartney’s parents.
“For everyone in the Seton Hall community who loved our daughter and took time to know her, we say thank you from the very bottom of our hearts,” they said. “She loved being a Pirate.”
The student was staying in Neumann, which is currently being used as COVID-19 quarantine space.
