Pirates fall to Leigh for third straight loss

The Seton Hall men’s soccer team continued its road trip on Saturday as they travelled to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to take on Lehigh. The game resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Pirates, and the defeat puts Seton Hall at a 1-3 record overall and extends its losing streak to three games.

The Pirates began the match aggressively by committing a foul within the first few minutes. By the 3rd minute, Seton Hall had already attempted a shot on goal, courtesy of Carlton McKenzie. Afterwards, both teams went back and forth for over 10 minutes trading fouls.

Within the next five minutes, the Pirates attempted two header shots, one by Eden O’Leary and the other by McKenzie, but each missed the mark.

During the 29th minute, Andreas Nota saved a goal from a Lehigh header shot. A minute later, Argeri attempted another shot that missed wide. The rest of the half was mostly uneventful, save for the two yellow cards Lehigh received. Both teams were very aggressive in the first half, as the Pirates committed eight fouls, and the Mountain Hawks committed six.

The Pirates began the second half similarly to the first half, as they committed two fouls within the first few minutes. In the 49th minute, Lehigh scored a goal off a corner kick to net the only score of the game.

After another Lehigh shot attempt, the Pirates tried to respond back with a goal of their own, but McKenzie missed the goal wide. After a few fouls and a shot by Lehigh, McKenzie responded again with a shot, this time a header, but just like his previous shot, it missed wide. After two more shot attempts by Lehigh missed, who else but McKenzie responded again with a shot attempt, but like the others it was off its mark.

Try as they must, Seton Hall could not notch a goal to at least tie up the match. The Pirates attempted a few more shots that never reached the back of the net.

The Pirates next game is scheduled to be on Friday, Sept. 20 as they visit Providence for their first Big East match of the year. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
